Community Service

Community Service

Lions Serve

At King’s Academy, service is more than an activity, it is an expression of our identity as image bearers of God and a lived-out part of our mission: Because every student has value as an image bearer of God, we provide opportunities to grow in wisdom, build healthy relationships, and serve our community. Lions Serve helps students discover what it means to follow Jesus by stepping into real needs with humility, compassion, and willing hearts.

Service in Elementary
Service is woven directly into the elementary curriculum, giving our youngest Lions regular opportunities to practice humility, teamwork, and compassion. Through age‑appropriate projects, students learn that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.

Service Days for Grades 6–12
For secondary students, Lions Serve takes shape through Service Days each semester. On these days, students leave the building to volunteer at churches, parks, neighborhoods, and local businesses, meeting real needs right in our own community.

While not every student is initially excited about serving, many discover that helping others is far more meaningful and enjoyable than they expected.

Student Reflections

  • “I learned that small acts have big impacts.”
  • “We’re kind of sheltered here at the school, so it was really good to get out and see the real needs in our community.”
  • “I learned that I can do things outside myself and it doesn’t have to be a big deal.”
  • “No matter how cold it is, I will help anytime I can.”
  • “Teamwork makes the dreamwork.”

Teacher Reflections

  • “I love getting kids out into the community and serving together. That is how hearts are softened and relationships built.”
  • “The students I served with thought it was going to be boring, but they had a lot of fun. I was pleasantly surprised by their attitude while serving.”
  • “We served at an organization right in our neighborhood cleaning a gym, organizing a sports closet, and sorting what felt like a thousand books. It was a joy to support staff who work so hard for kids in our community.”
  • “Service enables our students to get a glimpse of our community. We have great needs essentially in our own backyard. Serving shows kids that God can use them at any age; they don’t have to wait until adulthood to be effective for the Lord.”

Why Lions Serve Matters
Lions Serve reminds every student that they can make a meaningful impact as the hands and feet of Jesus. As they step into real needs with willing hearts, they discover connection, compassion, and a deeper understanding of what it means to emulate Christ.

Last year, King’s Academy secondary students volunteered over 2,000 hours in the community, an incredible testament to their character and commitment.

Required Service Hours
To help students grow consistently, not just through one big event, service hours are spread throughout the school year. Any single event may count for no more than 50% of the required hours. Students are encouraged to track their hours using a Google spreadsheet or a printed form. Record the volunteer activity, date, time served, and supervisor name.

Annual Requirements:

  • 6th Grade — 5 hours
  • 7th/8th Grade — 10 hours
  • 9th/10th Grade — 20 hours
  • 11th Grade — 30 hours
  • 12th Grade — 40 hours

A Living Expression of Our Mission
Lions Serve is a win for our students, a blessing to our community, and a powerful expression of our vision:
We are an educational community that supports and develops one another in a lifelong journey of knowing Jesus.
