High School Retreat - The King's Academy

Fall Retreat

2026 Dates: Wednesday, September 10th - Friday, September 12th

A beloved King’s Academy tradition, the High School Fall Retreat takes place during the start of the school year and sets the tone for a year of spiritual growth, community building, and Christ‑centered purpose. This three‑day trip invites students to step away from their normal routines and lean into our mission: Because every student has value as an image bearer of God, we provide opportunities to grow in wisdom, build healthy relationships, and serve our community.

Our vision shapes the heart of this retreat: We are an educational community that supports and develops one another in a lifelong journey of knowing Jesus.

A Three‑Day Experience at Camp Shamineau
On Wednesday, September 10th after school, students in grades 9-12 along with faculty and staff travel to Camp Shamineau in Motley, Minnesota for a time of worship, teaching, connection, and fun. We return Friday after lunch, refreshed and ready for the year ahead.

Throughout the retreat, students experience:

Chapel services that center hearts on Jesus
Life Group time for meaningful conversation and mentorship
Community‑building activities that strengthen friendships
Outdoor recreation and team challenges
Shared meals and cabin life that deepen connection

Students are placed in cabins by the retreat planning committee, giving them space to bond with peers, build healthy relationships, and form meaningful connections with trusted adults who serve as chaperones. Through shared cabin life, community activities, and time away from daily routines, students experience belonging, encouragement, and spiritual growth in a setting that reflects our vision of supporting one another in a lifelong journey of knowing Jesus.

Led by Caring Faculty & Staff
Our faculty and staff serve as chaperones, mentors, and encouragers throughout the retreat. Their presence helps students feel known, supported, and spiritually grounded as they prepare for the year ahead.

Camp Shamineau Dietary Needs

Gluten Allergies: The Camp Shamineau kitchen offers gluten-friendly options at every meal. Please note, gluten-friendly meals are prepared in areas that also prepare non-gluten free meals. (For example: A gluten-free pizza will be cooked in the same oven as a non-gluten free pizza.) Gluten-friendly items will be labeled and served in the general buffet line.
A limited selection of gluten-free options (individually wrapped products produced by a certified gluten-free company) will also be available at the kitchen service counter. These may include muffins, cookies, and dessert bars.
Nut Allergies: The kitchen does not serve peanut or tree nut products. However, some products may be manufactured in facilities that also process nuts. In addition, the snack shop sells candy that contains nuts.
Other Food Allergies: Lactose-free milk will be available at the kitchen service counter. For all other allergies, please contact the kitchen to discuss what options may be available.
Other Notes: Food storage space is available for guests who wish to bring their own food. Unfortunately, the kitchen may not be able to accommodate all special diets.

Refillable water bottle
Sleeping bag, pillow, towels (for transportation, put in a bag or large garbage bag labeled with student’s name)
Toiletries
Clothes for outdoor activities (Student Handbook Dress Guidelines apply)
Tennis shoes for games
Sweatshirt and sweatpants
Bug spray, sunscreen
Flashlight (no phones allowed, so a real flashlight; a lot of night activities occur in the woods)
Bible and journal, pen/pencil
Supplemental snacks for the bus rides
Rain jacket (if inclement weather)
Swimsuit (a modest one piece)
If desired, money for free-time activities

What to Wear

Students are encouraged to wear clothes they can be active in, and those they are ok with getting dirty.
If swimming, girls must wear a one-piece swimming suit.
All Student Handbook dress guidelines apply to the High School Retreat.

Other Details

Students will receive a full retreat schedule and map of camp when they arrive to camp.
Free-time activities available at no charge include high ropes, archery, air rifles, gift shop, swimming, paddle boats, canoes, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, and Frisbee golf etc.
Free-time activities available with charge include trail rides ($10)
What not to bring: electronic equipment, AirPods/earbuds, smart watches, cell phones, and illegal items. (Several staff will have cell phones that can be used for emergency reasons).
